130 amp funny bonus

So tonight after running this 130 amp alt for about two weeks I finally found a way to know its working for sure , I followed my friend to his house to make sure he got there safe on his Harley as we approached his street he threw up his hand as to say Thanks see ya so I hit the horn and WOW what a difference it's like two times louder even my friend said it gave him a bit of a scare when I honked at him so now my stock horn has some volume and nuts other then the ones bolting it to the truck lol

That is funny, who woulda guessed that a bigger alternator would have affected the horn.

Best mod ever. I run dual f150 horns in my pickup and 95 runner. Hell the only mod the 4runner needed was bent stock horn brackets, they are wired the normal switched power way

How much was your alt? My stocker aint cuttin it. With 2 subs, 4 hella 700's, 2 hella 500's and the heater on the volt meter starts to drop.. baddd

I'm selling my 4Runner and buying a diesel Land Cruiser HJ60 if I can find one. The horn on that baby is pretty nice... kind of like its yelling GET OUT OF THE WAY YOU STUPID CAMEL for when trundling around the desert.

Here is another place for high output alternators, where I got mine. 140 amps for $140. Only had it in a few weeks, but everything is fine so far. You must, must, must upgrade the wiring to do this. That stock 8 ga charge wire cannot take the current, it will be a fire hazard.

On the horn subject, I did the Cadillac horn mod. 4x horns from an 80's Cadillac. A, C, D, and F tones. I ran them all of a relay with power coming from the battery and the trigger from the stock horn wiring. Damn it is loud and broad in tone.

Type of motor does not matter, just tell them what year/engine you have, they will rebuild one for you that drops right in and has the proper mating connector for the wiring harness. All of these rebuilders are the same way. AES was a bit different in that they did not require a core, they just rebuilt one they had on hand and shipped it out.

That's cool wish I would have known before hand but I may just decide to go that route for my 3.4 swap if it is any alt there

I ordered a 160 amp alt from them a couple of months ago, i just havn`t had time to install it yet. I also got some 4 gauge wire to replace the factory alt to battery wire.

I think the pictures make it look better than it is. I did rebuild the motor 2 years ago and cleaned everything up. Good so far on the alternator, just wish I could find someone local to verify the output, so I can really know that I got what I paid for.

Couldnt you take it to kragen or some place like that and have them hook it up to there test machine ?, wouldn`t that tell you what its putting out ?, because i would like to know what its putting out also.

I tried that, they just have "dumb" machines, pass/fail, they do not get any current info. Also, the one I have, according to them, is bad, had them test it. Most likely because it puts out to high of a current at idle...

I then took it to a local guy who does rebuilds. His machine only tests at 2k RPM alternator, about 500 RPM engine speed. He was not too familiar with high output alternators, kind of a low rent establishment. It put out 78 amps at 2k RPM, so that confirms what AES said about idle output. But, his machine does not go up to 6k RPM alternator, about 1500 RPM engine, to test for max current.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be interested. Sorry to hijack the thread.
