Smog problems with weber 32/36 or 22r carb on 20r motor?
1980 4x4 pickup with stock 20r.
I wanted to upgrade the carb to a weber 32/36, but I thought a cheaper option might be to put a rebuilt aisin 22r carb on there instead. has anyone done this? I was wondering if it would cause greif when i went to smog my truck (daily driver). Thanks!
I already looked at 32/36 kits and 22r to 20r adapters. i'm just curious if anyone has tried it and how it runs?
edit: problem solved, check later posts. (search tags: smog legal carb weber 32/36 )

Ya get what you pay for....GET THE WEBER. Well, on second thought, you're in Kalifornia, so you might already be screwed as far as compliance with the "environmental nazis" goes. But I can tell you that these 20R/22R motors run GREAT with a properly set up Weber.

Figured it out
Ok, so after a little digging on the Air Resources Board website for CA i figured out the Weber 32/36 carb is legal by CA smog laws.
As long as the part number according to the list below is correctly matched to make and model then it is ok.

I was told that you might have to argue with an uninformed mechanic and bring the print out from the ARB to prove your point. but it is legal. (Weber is manufactured by REDLINE)
Since the 22r carb was OEM it would pass visual no problem if it was hooked up right, and since it should have a carb number on it.
The question about personal opinions about the weber is still up though. Likes? Dislikes? anyone.
