robbiepatterson's 1987 4Runner Build-Up Thread

Well I finally decided I was bored enough to start a build thread. I got my 4runner about a year ago and haven't had much money to do a whole lot but this is what I've got so far...

The day I got it- Went looking at another one and came across this beauty.

So of course I have big plans but I'm taking small steps until I can work out some sort of budget as soon as I graduate college

First is some 33's on Cragar Soft 8's that fit thanks to cheapo lift blocks and tightened torsion bars

I have an 8ft. CB antenna and a Cobra 29LTDNW CB. I get some wicked good reception.

I took all the plastic trim and stuff form the stock bumper and cut off the brackets. I cut the exhaust pipe off right at the leaf spring too.

I got some roof rack bars and built a rack myself but it is not completely finished and I don't have a camera to take any decent pictures. All of these came from my phone. I'll snag my gf's camera sometime in the next few days and get some updated pics.

Thanks for lookin

I forgot one thing... I went wheelin with my buddy in his K-5 blazer at an event in Kansas at Kansas Rocks Park and they had a raffle... Lucky me won some 4.70:1 transfer case gears. Hopefully I'll have time to put them in soon.

I think its just some grease or something on mine... It feels like it could be cleaned off with some brake cleaner but I haven't done anything more than pulling them out of the box to drool over HAHA

I went and got some updated pictures... The weather has been crappy so I did the best I could while the rain held out.

The radio is not my favorite thing in the world but it works for now

I mounted my hi-lift with some u-bolts to my load bars but I'm going to put some mounts on my roofrack whenever I decide to finish the thing how I want to. It's just a basic frame right now.

I'll be going home for spring break this weekend so I'm not going to have much time to work on it between now and when I get back. Maybe my gears will go in and I'll finish the roofrack when I get back from break.

I finally took some time and finished my rack for now. I want to put down a sheet of expanded metal but I am too broke to buy any.

I also found a mud puddle to play in a lil bit

I took a 5/8" bolt and grinded off part of it on both sides to get a flat surface. Then I drilled a hole big enough for the lock and welded the head of the bold to the frame of the rack. Not as professional as I like but it works and I didn't want to spend too much time on it.

Well, I just bought a new daily driver so I haven't put much time or money into it. My rear brake line went out on me so I did some modifications and took out the proportioning valve and have one line running to the rear. I have a manual proportioning valve and a new 1" master cylinder on the way.

I guess its time to give a little update... I fixed my brakes but I really haven't done anything else. I am too lazy once I get off work to mess with the yota. I did however get a new tailgate with all the guts and glass still in. The switch in the console doesn't work and I haven't put my keyswitch in the new tailgate to see it it works either but I will get to that eventually. I'm just happy to have a back window.

Almost forgot, I was wheeling a few weeks ago and busted both front cv shafts. I have two new ones ready to go in but like I said, I am too lazy.

No I haven't, I need to get on that. I don't drive the toy much so I don't really think about it. I did get my cvs fixed but I just noticed trail-gear is having a sale on suspension so I may be ordering a SAS kit soon.
