Muddy engine bay

Ok, so after a fun night of wheeling in the forest with my girlfriend, and a buddy of mine, we rolled up to the gas station, I popped my hood, and I was shocked at how muddy / wet / dirty my engine bay was.

I then looked at my GF's engine bay, (same motor 22re, 94 P/U) and hers wasn't nearly as dirty as mine.

So I'm thinking I must be missing something to let all this mud and water enter my engine bay.

Both trucks are missing the passenger side splash guard, mine is missing the valance bumper, but hers has it. Could that be it? I can't see how that little peice of metal can stop that much water... but then again I could be wrong. What about the rubber gasket underneath the hood? Mine has that but it looks pretty haggard... but then again so does hers.

Hers also has a 3in body lift, which I would think would let more water get in.

There are also 2 little peices of metal with nuts welded on them hiding underneath my skid plate, and I'm not sure what they are for. Here is a pic:

Abnormal? Am I missing something? Maybe I'm just being paranoid but It just seems like that is too much water getting in.

Yeah I agree with zach. If you hit mud holes faster and harder more mud is going to splash higher then if you creep through. Just basic physics lol. I still have mud caked in the engine bay from one particular hole 5 months ago.... Even after an engine steam cleaning (powering through a deep creek)

tale it as a souvenier and keep truckin lol

Wow. The mud added some color to your engine bay. Before it was just black & white, and now it's colorful.
