Hey, I bought a street rv head from Ted about a year ago. I was going to intall it in my truck but the bottom end is shot. I am driving a 92' with a 22re in it right now. Once it gets warm out, the motor from the 92' is going in my truck. My question is... Should I install the head when:

1) I pull the motor, just do the head and timing chain, then install in the truck.
2) Put the head in the 4runner now, to make sure I have it running good before swapping the motor into the truck.

Why not rebuild the motor in your truck and put the new head on there?
That way you will have a peppy new motor and not have to worry about it ever again.

 

I'm thinking that since you are driving the 92 and the 89 is just sitting there you should be out in the garage pulling and rebuilding the engine in the 89. Put the head on at the same time and you are going to be freaking golden.

 

My mistake, the bottom end isn't shot, but the block is. Two of the mounting tabs for the timing chain cover are literally broken off of the block in the 89'. The truck still runs fine, but when I come to a stop it dies. That is why I bought the 92', for the motor and gears. That said, take a weekend and put the head on in the 4runner and get it running good (to swap in the future), or pull the motor when I get time, swap the head, then put it in the truck?

 

When you get everything to rebuild the motor then pull it if you have complete bottom and top ends you can rebuild and do the head it in a weekend

 

Way easier to do the job on a stand.
