87 strip down, what to take...

hi, nice forums ya got here,

so i am buying a 87 regular cab from the junkyard, it was a c4c, and after he and haing about how to get it off without wrecking it, and how to load it onto the trailer... they decided that they would just give me the whole truck and i would have 2 weeks to return it... granted i can pull other parts off, and since i have the advantage of a nice heated shop, i am going to use it... it was a v6 manual... so i was going to take the calipers and the steering box... just wondering if there is anything else that is worth taking... thanks

absolutely take everything u can. door handles window cranks seats turn signals i mean everything. I have 3 shelves of parts in my garage that will fit my truck. i took the entire engine bay except the block. take the 3rd members and or axles. if you dont use it you can sell it later. i have fixed my truck so many times by just pulling parts off the shelf that i lost count. its a beautiful thing, take advantage

What ever you leave you will wish you had taken. I speak from experience. I thought I got all the good stuff but its the "things I left" that I wish I had taken.

Enjoy, take lots of pics where it all goes.

well i have a solid axle so the ifs stuff is useless... and it has the v6'er in it... so the trans and t case and engine parts are useless..cause all i run re's i know the rear 3rds are different... i dont know if the v6 3rds are usefull to me.... i know they are different.. but i dont know about interchangeable. and i am getting everything that is touching the cab....

Once you get everything disconnected, the body is only held by 6 bolts. 4 under the cab and 2 by the bumper. I pulled the motor first. 4 strong helpers can move the cab.. I disconnected my brake line at the frame behind the front wheel. Dont forget the main harness under passenge seat. I did something similiar and the extra parts are invaluable. The IFS may come in handy later or for someone else. Keep us updated on switching from a V6 to a 4 cylinder cab such as wiring. That I havent done and would like to know.

Part it out at reasonable prices or at least when you are finished over the carcass for free. There are plenty of us that would love to pick over the remains. I hate seeing these trucks getting scraped.
