Yesterday heard some noise coming from the engine compartment, sounded like metal on metal grinding. No loss of power and truck feels normal. Today same thing but at some point started getting smoke inside the cab, pulled over and popped the hood. Saw light smoke coming from the front of the motor. Couldn't really pinpoint it but my sense is that my alternator burned up. I'm up for replacing it but is there anything else that it might be?

 

Sometimes when an alternator goes bad it can burn up, it happened on my cousins 86 4Runner, The alternator went bad and almost caught on fire, lots of smoke and the alternator was so hot the you couldn`t touch it.
