i havent done the fuel filter, they are oem parts... vacum leak is a good thing to check... i have the manual but off the top of your head, is the filter in line or in the tank? the timing was done when i had all accessory belts replaced the same time the cap, wires and plugs were serviced

The fuel filter is inline next to the passengers side frame rail. Easy to replace. Get the OEM one as it come with a new bracket. Have you checked for CEL codes? Have you checked or had checked the exhaust valve adjustment.

Yes you jumper two terminals under the hood then turn you key to on. and check the flashes of the check engine light. The procedure for pulling the codes on our runners is here somewhere.
You also may want to check the TPS for adjustment.
