Sour Grass trail cleanup pics
My club, the Gettin' off 4x4 club, did their bi-annual trail clean up and maintenance of the Sour Grass trail here in Sierras. The california weather was really wild in the past week as we went from summer to fall to winter in the course of 1 week. On Monday it was 90 deg in the bay area and by Friday it was snowing in the mountains. The storm left about 2-3 inches of snow on the ground by the time we got up to the trail on Sat. I picked up Charles (calrockx) at the BART station and headed up to the trail.
Yes, this is Terry's new Jeep. He says he plans to use the jeep for the mild trails and the toyota for the harder ones.
Here's one obstacle on the way to the campsites:
Everybody got into the spirit.
Because Andrew's jeep had an electrical fire on a Dusy run he had to hit the trail with his tow rig.
After the cleanup some of us hit the Slickrock trail. The snow made for some scarey times on the way though, as ice was still covering parts of the road, especially around corners. I came around a corner and found several of the jeeps scattered on the opposite shoulder. I hit my brakes but found I there was no way I could stop in time so I tried my best to aim for a gap between a small tree and a jeep. Finally, I came to a stop in a small ditch right beside the jeep! Everybody said I won for the longest skidding distance. Too bad I didn't get a video of that.
