Just a few days ago I've noticed a strong smell of fuel inside my truck cab while driving around. I have not a clue where the leak is, I'm looking for some guidance on how or where to find it. Of course it had to happen during the winter where the underside of my truck is just totally wet from melting snow.

Sorry for the lack of information but if someone could give me some insight it would be much appreciated.

years ago i took my truck through an automatic carwash....the kind that sprays the undercarriage pretty well to get the muck off.....soon after that smelled gas....blah blah blah...kept smelling it......drove to work one day to find gas streaming from my truck...turns out the high pressure wash broke some sort of thing on top of my gas tank...they said it was something that when left aone does not cause a problem but with the high pressure wash it disrupted it causing it to break.

trace your fuel line and visualize your tank...on my truck, i believe, this repair could only be done with dropping the tank

 

Well at least you could have told us what motor you have, lol.

If you're smelling fuel, there's a leak, probably in the engine compartment, and there are too many sources of ignition to ignore the issue. Don't drive it until you find and fix the leak. (This warning is completely unnecessary to anyone who has witnessed a fuel-fed vehicle fire!)

If it's a veezy it's most likely the fuel pulsation damper:

The 22REs have those too, on the front of the fuel rail pointing down and outward.

Also check the fuel return line - the rubber section attached to the fuel pressure regulator.

Injectors sometimes spring a leak, too.

Jumping B+ & FP in check connector and turning ignition on to run the pump and pressurize the fuel rail(s) may help you locate the leak, but be careful! You don't want to go out in a blaze of glory.

Sorry for the late reply, my winter break class is keeping me busy but I did find the leak, it seems to be coming from this brass fitting. I wanted to get some insight from you guys before I just go and start messing with it, but how easy of a fix is this? Can I just tight it down more?

Camach in your pic, looks like the cold start injector itself - and not the banjo bolt joints - that is leaking. You can try tightening the banjo bolt a bit, but my guess is it won't help. Since that injector is pretty pricey, you'll probably need to start looking on ebay/craigs or junkyard looking for a fairly low-mile part. http://www.car-part.com is a portal to tons of junkyards. Or maybe someone around here has one lying around...

 

I did see fuel dripping from the crush washers earlier, but I'll look at the injector as well. Both of you thanks for the help.
