Went black, Never going back
Just bought a set of locking hubs on craigslist for $50, rebuilt them and painted them all black along with painting my wheels flat black with duplicolor wheel paint.

The flat black texture was similar to the texture of my sand paper, exactly how i wanted it.

Here's the hub and wheel together.

Here's the rig from a distance

I'm happy with the result, what do you guys think?

I def like that combo, looks slick. You still liking your projector headlights?
I used that duplicolor wheel paint for my bumpers, and it has held up well. The olny chips are from a dump truck spraying me with a little gravel going 65 on Hwy 18. Other then that its pretty good stuff.

No clearcoat, the wheel paint doesn't need it and since it is flat the clear coat would change the texture. The paint is duplicolor wheel paint.
Kiyo - I love the projectors, I have seen the benifits many times driving in the dark and have never had any problems blinding traffic.

Gregg - I do carry flat clearcoat because I agree with what you said; traditional clearcoat just makes them glossy and I like flat, as do many of my customers.
The wheel paint is durable, but it will last much longer with clearcoat protecting it.

Clear coat would make it last longer, but that's kinda why most of us paint things with rattle cans, so we don't have to worry about it getting scratched. I went light wheeling today over some fallen trees and rubbed through some standing trees and the paint held up perfect.

Yeah the pic I posted is of the first one I did before I realized I needed to get the inside. I went back and got it and made sure to do the inside of the other 3 first. I got the insides really good though.

Now that I think about it, my rig is going on 19 years now, man I love toyotas!!! Matt, it is really worth it. The duplicolor wheel paint is $5.99 a can at autozone and I went through 1.5 cans so I still have some left for touch up. It's cheap and makes a huge difference. I also thought about going with a gun metal color, it would probably look good.

They look very good. I did the same to some rims I bought off craigslist for $50. The rims were rusty after some grinding, glazing and sanding I painted them black but used a low shine clear coat. I love the way they look. Waiting on my new tires now to finish the job. Can't wait I am going wih 31's in the front and 33's in the back
