howdy yall i have an 84 toy pickup and my frame is cracked almost all the way around on the passenger side right in front of the rear leaf spring mount and i was wondering what your thoughts were on how to fix it thanks

 

Pictures will help. The repair is going to depend heavily on the specifics of the damage

So, if the damage is not too bad, you could plate over it.

If the damage is really bad, your best bet is going to be cutting out at least that section and welding rectangular tube back in. Of course, by the time you go to that effort, you might just be better off replacing from there back on the frame ... and if you're gonna do that, may as well backhalf and link it while you're there ... of course, to keep the front suspension balanced with the rear, now you gotta do something there ...

 

As long as the frame has not shifted from it`s stock position you should be ok to plate the frame .

what i use is special bent 2"x4" x1/8th angle depending on how close this is to the spring hanger mount it could be interesting but nothing that can`t be figured out and done right .

Be safe and when you rotate home I am sure we will be able to get it figured out.

 

no the frame hasnt shifted and the crack is probly 1/4 inch or less away from the mount its really close but ya we will figure something out thanks for the input

what you could do is cut the frame on either side of the crack. grind smooth. clean out the inside of the frame, place 1/8" to 1/4" flat stock on the inside of the frame going all the way through to the back side, hole weld it in place on both sides. make sure when you cut it/reweld the two sections of the frame together that you weld diagonaly and not straight down because in a few hard wheeling trips you will be back where you are.
