95 4runner v-6 4wd 190k - fix or scrap?

Hi -

I need to rebuild at least the top end of my engine or sell/part out the car. I think there is a bent valve that is preventing the engine from turning over. If I use a wrench to reverse the engine a few turns then crank it, it sounds like it cranks just fine for a second then locks up. I cannot advance it with a wrench once it locks up but I can reverse it. While I drove the car the other day it was burning a bunch of coolant and then some oil.

The interior is fair, the transmission seems to take too long to shift out from 3rd to 4th while accelerating on the highway, the frame, tailgate, and rear fenders are pretty rusty, and it has been leaking some fluids.

I don't really have any emotional connection to it and I could afford another car or to do have the repair done. But until yesterday I had no plans to spend $ on a car. I don't want to tow it to get an estimate done if I'm going to decide to scrap it.

How do you decide whether to scrap it or fix it? Any compelling reasons to fix it? Any guesses as to the cost to fix what I've described? Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.

this is how you decide. how much is this fix going to cost you + how long till the next major break down.

or is it cheaper to get another car all together.

if your frame is rusty, will it pass state inspection? how much other work does the truck need?

but then there is always the sentimental value. i know i would hate to part with my truck. so i guess for me it would come down to this. i would go sit in the driver seat of the truck and think about how much i like this truck and if its worth it to fix. if you have the time/pats/knowledge id say go for it.
