'87 4runner stuck in defrost

My truck's air flow control lever is broken, and I'm not sure how to fix it.

On the driver's side in between the gas pedal and radio, I noticed there's a whole bunch of white plastic parts that try to move when I pull on the lever so it seems like it might be really complicated to fix this small problem.

Okay, but what do I have to do specifically to get it unjammed?

Just guessing, I'd take the glove box and dash board out then probably try to oil the pulley system.
