after reading much stuff here, I saw a thread discussing a few things, and one was replacing the intake mani gasket, with a hi speed one. Lowering the temps of the air going in, sounds like a good thing to me, so I ordered one of these;

Oh yeah, 88 4rnr, with a 22re engine.

 

Its not that bad on the intake side, get a SHOP manual, or download one. Go slow, and label anything you undoo. mm Deathcouger could help, he's the Man on engine pics that could help.

 

Honestly, i don't think a GASKET of all things will make your intake cooler lol.
What will make the air in your engine cooler is a cold-air intake..

Weelll, there was a thread on here, started about 2 years ago, i think by a dude named Gnarly. And it popped up again recently, as in the last couple of days.
I think he had made a massive intake pipe out of aluminum, with fittings, clamps, etc., and wondered who would be interested? A lot of other dudes chimed in and out , with pro's and cons, and then another duded talked about lowering temps at the intake, and then this came up. someone else said the tuner guys, especially the Honda dudes, all switched to these, and it sounded great.
So I bought one, and have it coming in , in a few days.

i have seen this done on many different engines and most say all positive things about these phenolic spacers. however, im not sure about the 22re engine but if they have a throttle body heater that takes engine coolant and warms up the TB, then those hoses have to be bypassed or blocked off or the coolant with just heat up the manifold anyway and spacers dont do anything.

 

Well if its sucking air from your engine bay its not cold.

 

an insulated gasket makes sense. It won't let your intake get much warmer than the surrounding air. If it was touching the head it would get 'much warmer' just because of the way the metal conducts heat.

It might improve your gas mileage .001% if you're using it by itself.

cold air intake and a few other mods on the engine, might prove it's worthiness....

snorkel is the best air intake system

 

...yikees!!! what or where exactly are these hoses, do they come straight from the radiator, or are they marked? how many hoses normally go into the throttle body, and how many extra are there for this added step?

 

Sounds like snake oil to me, but I will be watching this thread to see the results!

 

dude snake oil got me like 5 horsepower .... per ounce !

 

Before you reassemble it mock up to both the intake and head. If there's any potential for overhanging and obstructing air trim it till it clears the air passages. I have no expereince with these gaskets but have install a few regular ones.
