Found a guy selling a 2003 long block 3RZ and I am hoping I can just pull out my tired 3RZ, in my '98, and drop that one in and plug it right up to the harness.

The 2003 doesn't include ECU or harness or anything else, just a complete engine. Any changes I need to be aware of? There was a change in coil packs wasn't there? Stuff like that shouldn't be an issue should it if all I am doing is swapping the physical engine out and reusing my existing accessories?

I'm guessing you will have problems with trying to put all your 98's sensors, electronics, ecu, etc...on a 5 year newer block.

 

Yeah I agree there will probably be some obstacles to overcome. Obviously powerplant wise I should be fine (I'm guessing) because it's the same family of 3RZ's. It will just be a matter of adapting to any updates/changes. I will cannibalize everything I can from the existing 3RZ for sensors and what not. Is there anything to be sure to absolutely use from the old block...like cam position sensor or anything like that?

The 3RZ-FE is a 2.7 L (2693 cc) I4 version built in Japan. Bore is 95 mm and stroke is 95 mm. Output is 150 hp (112 kW) at 4800 RPM with 177 ft·lbf (240 N·m) of torque at 4000 RPM.

If I may, 269k on your 98 3RZ? Can you fill us in on its history? Any major overhauls or anything you would suggest doing to us 3RZ owners? I've only got 150k on my '97 but just checking.

 

where did you find that at? Im needing that info for a 3.4...

 

The only differences between 3rz's is initially they were distributed, then went coil packs, then went from 8port intake to a 4port intake.

the 8 port intake will not fit on a 4 port block, but a 4 port intake will fit on an 8 port block..... I believe

The only thing you'd need to change (if you had a bear block) would to just change intake manifolds. They are exactly the same, except one has 8 round holes, and the other has 4 oval ones.

 

Well...I picked up a block from this guy and it is stripped down to basically a short block but I do have most of the parts (crank, heads/valve train, pistons, intake manifold) in a box. Looks like it spun a rod bearing on #4.

Does anyone know how to decode the block since I don't have a VIN? I found a distributor in the box o' stuff, but also a 4 port intake manif . My valve cover says X2Rz-N74, 3RZ is cast into the block

My Taco is my daily driver so, to minimize down time, the idea was to build up a block and just do a swap is why I didn't just pull mine and rebuild it.

Is there any issue with it mating up to the tranny regardless if it was originally an auto (my 98 is a manual)?
