Where does the RET turbo tap for oil?

Where does the turbo get it's oil from on the engine? I'm FINALLY in the process of turbo'ing my 22RE, jsut hung up a bit on where I can get an oil supply for the turbo.

What's the census? Thanks guys

on the driverside of the block..a little towards the front from the middle of the block...right about the oil pan (if looking at it from the driverside)..

do a search on Lazer block...

idk how to describe what the part looks like LOL..but you'll have to take the block to a machine shop to have that port drilled out..lol

The motor won't be going to the machine shop. It just got built and broken in, ready for turbo. I was stupid and didn't think of this until now. I need somewhere i can tap.

just to let u know that factory oil supply line (in the pretty pic) goes the whole way through the block to the oil galley on the other side. it might be ALOT easier and alot cheaper to get the hole tapped on the other side of the block in the raised oil galley running horrizontaly behind the oil filter. infront of and below the oil filter is unfiltered so don't go with the port in the engine mount bracket (pass side) or where the oil press sending unit is.

Here's where I tapped mine. U will have to run a line to the other side of the motor though....

red circle- tapped 1/8 npt port for oil supply
blue circle- factory oil press sending unit port
yellow arrow- fuel filter bracket so try to avoid that area

Would you mind writing a little about what you did for the turbo conversion (aside from finding an oil line hehe).

I have a rebuilt T3/T4 from this old VG30ET I rebuilt and haven't used... would be kinda cool to put that on my 22RE. Except for my stock compression ratio hyper- pistons and all... or can I run super low boost with an intercooler there? heh.. heh..

I have often thought about designing a quickly-swapped mega-squirt + turbo setup for a 22RE such that CA smog intervals could be met and allowing one to quickly switch to a turbo setup later... the ECU problem has been solved with the DIYPNP MS kits that are swappable with the stock ECU within seconds; one wonders if a simple turbo manifold, downpipe, and intake tract exists that would allow an afternoon swap to an N/A header...

So i am finding that the best place to do this tap is to the left of the oil filter? I have the turbo, intercooler, and piping on order and I need to start getting this stuff figured out.

That block in the picture with the colored arrows is nice and all
but NONturbo blocks are not tapped as u know

NOW
the return line is EASY
there is NO need for the return line, to return to block
it can return direct to the oil pan (weld on bung)

the feed line as u r discovering does need threaded
the tapped holes for PSI sensing are PRE filter, so thats NO good...
it is possible to run the feed line without tapping the block...(tapped is best!)
Install a sandwich plate for an external oil cooler. (NON THERMOSTATIC)
"Loop" the feed/return lines of the filter plate out and back into its self... then "TAP" this looped line with a "T" fitting
this will get you a threaded connection
that is Filtered and pressured before the crank and head are...
aka the last to starve of oil...

DONT FORGET THE OIL FEED LINE PSI RESTRICTOR FITTING
http://www.034motorsport.com/product...roducts_id=442
This is an example....
they are specific per manufacture

Thank you for the post! This made is SO easy, and I'm on page with you on everything, except you're last part. What is the restrictor fitting you're talking about? I never heard of one and/or seen one.

Click the url he gave, it explains the need for the restrictor.

Gotcha.

A 22re doesn't produce enough oil pressure for me to want to worry about that. All the buddy's G54B's run same PSI and never had a turbo problem.

Turbo showed up today....intercooler should be here tomorrow. Still looking for a definitive answer. The sandwich plate theory seems the best, but I'm still interested in the latest post about the engine mount tap place....

Erik, that red square is unfiltered oil... to get a good spot with already filtered oil, drill and tap where the green arrow is pointing.
