Need technical advice--Here is the back ground:

1999, 4Runner, 5Spd, 3.4. 35's, 4.88's. ~3k on motor

New motor with Weasey2k cams, springs, high flow valves, Doug Thorley headers, and basically everything new or cleaned and flowed...etc...

Motor runs very strong--no complants there. However, drove to Houston and got 13 MPG (First long drive) doing 75Mph . I was thinking i should get at least 15-16 on the highway. I do have Cali Smog and the new cats (not oem) throw a Code Thats ("cats are not working efficiently")...Would this affect the Air/fuel ratio? Does it run a different map when this is happening?

Talked to my motor builder and he stated that I should try running additional timing advance because of the cams and etc. But not having a distributor I cant really advance initial timing.

Now my motor builder nows his stuff--really well--no questions there. But besides a URD piggy back--is there any way to advance the initial timing on the 3.4? If not then i will have to get the Piggy back from URD but funds are really tight right now and was just thinking about an alternative for the time being. Any input folks?

Just an update--he states the additional timing will help me build more pressure in the cylinder. This is common among more aggressive cams. a Cheap alternative i would be grateful for.
