Hi-lift on stock 3rd gen roof rack?
I've been searching but cant find anything. I've seen a few rigs with them up there but cant tell exactly how it was done. Im gonna fab something up but before I do I was wondering if there was a common method. Oh yeah and the same for an axe and shovel mount.

I really like Quick Fists...and I may carry them soon.

Bajarack has a very nice basket just for the 3rd gen runner's rails, and they also sell an axe/shovel mount and a hi-lift mount.
I just got all that stuff installed last weekend, with a rotopax mount on the bajarack as well. No pictures yet but it all looks and works great.

I have used the quickfist clamps for awhile (this set up in the back of my old tacoma) I would recommend using 3 of them on a high lift, for something that heavy, 2 just did not seem that secure IMO:

for a roof rack I would say that the slee's kit would probably be the way to go
Four Trek's make a cool mount too: http://www.fourtreks.com/

Here's what I use Quick Fists for:

Same here. Got long bolts going from bottom to top through crossbars, the lock washer and nut, then high lift slides over long bolts, then big rubber fender washers, then wing nuts. Works like a charm and again cost less then 5 bucks.

I have the slee mounts on my 4Runner. They work great and are very stout. The only down side is price for those mounts. You could make something similar by using the yakima clips for our racks and putting an extra long bolt through and then using a wing nut to keep the hi-lift on. Just a cheaper route to think about. But I love my slee mounts and they are probably the best bet for longevity and function.
