22RE- It's almost there, but I got a lotta questions thread...

I know that in my lack of patience tearing my 22RE before the rebuild, that I am going to have quite a few things come up that I am not sure of, so here it goes...

I'm just about to bolt up the lower intake, but it seems that the machine shop misplaced one of the threaded posts.

Here is the head with the intake gasket in place-

And here it is with the manifold in place over it-

It seems like that post above the last intake port is one hole too far to the left.

Also, are all the bolts for the intake going to be the same length, or are there any longer ones to accomidate for something else bolting down with it?

I replaced all fasteners for exhaust and intake side with studs, wasn't too pricey from the local Napa. It's not like you need crazy tensile strength stuff from ARP or anything considering the torque specs involved.

The last intake port you are referring to is for the egr.

You're saying I need to swith that post one hole over to the right, so that it is above the no. 4 intake port?

What about my injectors. I hadn't planned on doing anything with them, but I noticed that the o rings where they meet the fuel rail are pretty narly looking. Can I replace just that seal, or should I even worry about them?

nah man that stud is in the wrong spot. It needs to be where you think it needs to be haha.. Machine shops.... blah.

All the manifold bolts are the same length.

The vacuum lines get bolted to the intake manifold using the two studs and Nuts. You'll just have to loosen them later on and re-torque them to...14 ft lbs if i remember correctly.

AND im sure u already know this, but just a friendly reminder.. Remember that rtv silicone needs to be used on both sides of the gasket. Rub it on with ur finger EVENLY all over the HEAD side of the gasket, and place it on the head. Dont use a lot, but get a nice even thin layer all over it. Then do the same to the manifold and install it. Over using rtv in an intake manifold is bad news. Gas tends to eat it quickly.

Thanks guys, I got the intake on, and for the collant line that wraps behind the head, what kind of gasket is supposed to go on it where it meets the bottom of the intake? This is a joint where the coolant tube basically inserts into the intake, there's 2 bolts, and the intake side has a little bit of a "groove" around its opening. It kinda seems like a crush washer goes in there? Does it get any RTV to go along?

It takes a rubber O-ring.

I found a close fitting replacement at a local hardware store. No RTV was necessary.

Where does this gasket go?

It looks like the same gasket as is used at each end of the EGR line that passes around the bach side of the head, but it has those tabs on the outside of it? The gasket set that I got with the motor from the machinist only has one of these gaskets, but I need 2 of them for the EGR line, and doesn't one also go between the EGR and the upper intake plenum?

egr goes onto the block right behind the intake. the gasket for that is integrated into the intake gasket

Sorry about that, I misread your question.

I would replace the orings and grommets. It would suck to get it all together and have a fuel leak. I got mine at napa when I rebuilt my 22re.

I think the gasket you are holding goes from the EGR to the plenum.

The tube that passes behind the head is referred to as the "No. 1 Secondary Air Injection Manifold". The gaskets are dealer only items and are made of the same material as the exhaust manifold gasket. Some kinda weird metallic stuff.

Here's a pic and the numbers compliments of "scuba" here at Yotatech who helped me out with the same problem:

Here's another image. I believe the gasket in your photo is circled in red:

FINALLY... she's in!!!!!

Here's some updated pics-

This guy thinks he's getting a free beer-

After unbolting the driveshaft at the rear diff, I was able to get the input shaft of the tranny to slip into place, and she went in real smooth!!

Driver's side. I just layed the power steering bracket and pump to the side when pulling the motor out, so thats the hose you see in the way.

Here's 2 passenger side shots-

Now here's the questions I have so far-

- I can't recall how all that power steering pump, alt bracket and idler pulley setup went... so where's the best place to start?

- Also, when bolting up the bellhousing, I'm wondering what bolts go where. Here's a sample of the bolts thatI have left. There's a 17mm, 14mm, and 12mm.

The top 2 holes are the large 17mm bolts, then the bottom 4 holes all get the same 14mm bolt? Where does the 17mm bolt that has a bracket that holds the exhaust pipe go?

Thanks for the help so far!!
