How hard is it/ how do I remove the carb on my 79 20R?
HI everyone,
I would like to remove the carb on my 79 20R to have it rebuilt. How had is it to remove the carb from the truck? How difficult is it to get at the nuts holding the carb down? Are any of the nuts in difficult spots? Does anyone have a step by step approach to removing the carb?
Thanks,
Zack

Get yourself a service manual. It will show you how.
It should be basically the same as my 83 22R. Remove all vacuum lines and fuel lines, unplug any wires, remove the four bolts/nuts at the base of the carb, and it will lift right out. If you've done stuff like this before, just not the carb, it will take you 15 minutes..although in my experience, when people ask "how hard is __"...they usually don't have much wrenching experience. I know from experience.

So the Toyota carb nuts are easy to get at ?

Mine were no problem. I just used a ratcheting wrench and a socket wrench, don't remember any of them being particularly hard. You may not be able to get a socket on one or two of them but a regular crescent wrench works just fine. I think you'll find two bolts and two nuts. Mine took me about 15-20 minutes the first time, 5 the second. No special tools or contortioning.
