So I had my 22re head milled and cleaned I don't think they took out the valves anyway I placed the head back on and started to adjust the valves and the #2 exaust valve has less then the .012 but it is hitting the rocker arm and not the adjustable valve pin I am lost what could that be ? wow ur help is so much appreciated

 

ummmm, sounds like either you or THEY bent a valve the upper portion that's visable through the spring...

honestly, it wouldn't be that hard to do on accident; get somebody with butterfingers to let it slip and fall from a few inches and hit the valve, and it could cause it...

hey thanks, and let me ask you this, once i torque down the head on the new head gasket, is the sucker done for, or can a guy use the same one, i have not started the truck yet, i torqued the bolts and then checked the valve clearances,

 

I would HIGHLY advise against it...

considering the amount of work it takes to tare everything back apart and replace it if it starts leaking, I'd just assume buy a new one and not risk it

about the only time I would even consider using a head gasket after it's been torqued once is if you're not removing the head off of it; for instance, if you just needed to swap cam shafts or something... but even then it's kinda iffy...

um 22re valves have to be adjusted hot...... so at first your prob not going to get a good reading...... i would never reuse a head gasket either..... if the head is moved off of it get a new one.

 

so what do you suggest that i do? do you think i should put it all back together and then see if there is clearance when its hot, or just take the head off again and replace the valve-(also just to make sure, the head bolts torque specs for a 94 is 58 foot lbs, right?

 

I would have not messed with the rocker arm assebley and put it all back together and once the engine is running adjust from there. Unless you adjusted them bookoo alot it won't hurt. And yes its 58lbs for head. Once you get it all together with engine running go from there make sure shes hot take valve cover off and adjust to factory specs. if the shop you sent the hed to didn't remove the valves i'd say they are fine.

 

ok, i will do that, i just wanted to initially adjust the valves to that they were not always open when i try to start it (i did another head before and i put it on without adjusting the valves and the valves were all open and so no compression and it wouldnt start, took me a while to figure out that i had to roughly adjust the valves so that it did have some compression and it started right up)- well i will try that and see if that works-but yeah i wouldnt dare take apart the rocker arm assembly-dude thanks
