Just another newb (wa)

So I just got myself into a '87 pickup, sr5, xtra cab, 22re. It's pretty beat but I'm resurrecting it. I'm no stranger to turning a wrench but I'm used to the great american V8. The foriegn four banger with fuel infection has me scratching my head. My motor has so many disconnected (and plugged) little hoses and wires that I don't know what goes where or why. I seems to run fairly well but takes some effort to start when the block is cold, and it eats a ton of gas.
My question is is there anyone in the washington area that could look at this and point me in the right direction? Or at least tell me of a good shop to take it to? I by far prefer to do all my own work on my vehicles but I don't even know where to start here.
I got this thing for getting around in the snow and running around in the wood during hunting season I tend to find myself thirty miles frim any paved road at time and really want this to be a reliable truck.
Any help or advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Power wise this truck is a joke. My V8 is a 400sb in a '68 chevy 1/2 ton but it's only 2 wheel drive. I've never done any wheelin but I hope to give it a try.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

More pictures as promised

I have completely cleaned the inside and replaced the seats, ignition switch, and door locks. This truck will look completely different in a couple months.
