Who in Raleigh/Cary/Durham (RTP) NC loves wrenching on their trucks? I'm new to the game, never was taught much growing up. My dad was a "take it to the shop" kind of guy. I figure what better way to learn then to teach my kids as I learn! Especially, while they're young enough to still forget how daddy screws up!

When you start working on your vehicle and something is not clear search then post and don't worry we all ask dumb questions at some point.

 

yeah these trucsk are easy to work on start with oil changes and stuff.. get under your rig with a manual and look at the parts read about how they work and stuff and look for a local offroad club.. thos are th wrenching local guys!

I'm not quite in your area, but a few hours towards the cost, Havelock. I'm either under the hood of an 85 runner, or cleaning up an 87 pick up almost every night.

 

I'm in Chapel Hill when I'm not traveling for work.

 

my dad worked race cars half his life so he knew basically everything but he taught me how by getting me a cheap little car to work on. an 85 toyota mr2 he got for $500. that was when i was 12. he just let me go at it. he didn't do anything on the car unless i asked for help. he didn't care whether that car eventually ran or ended up in the junk yard. it did eventually run and it was my first car. i learned so much about cars from that car.

id say if u really want to learn and teach ur kids too then go get a cheap old car that needs work then go find a forum for that particular car and read up on it. try to fix it up. who cares if u mess up on something cuz its not a car that you need or anything.

That's what this is for me! I have a daily drive butthis my have fun and see what I can do vehicle. I've always liked the old 4Runners just hasn't been an option until now. I plan on starting with an oil change and the going from there. I was going to put insole Mobil1 Syn 10w-30 but I'm getting some people who say do it and others who tell me it will clean up the engine and causeleaks from the gunk it removes... So I'm already stuck!
