Angry starting problem with 3rd gen 4runner

Occasionally, when I try to start my truck, it will turn over but not fire. When I step on the gas, when it does this, it fires right up. It is fuel injected, so I shouldn't have to do this. It only does this about every 20th time I start it. Of course the dealer can't solve the problem 'cause it doesn't do when I bring it in.

Hopefully some one else has had this problem before and can give out a tip or two. Thanks!

Mine did this too though I never stepped on the gas pedal like you did. Check the battery and possibly the alternator. I replaced the battery and after that, no problem.

yeah, I thought it might be the battery, so I put in a brand new Optima, and it still does it, haven't checked the alternator yet, though it spins over pretty strong, it just won't fire 'till I hit the gas. It would probably be easier to figure out if it did it every time, but I guess she's just wants to make me think! I will give it try.

Great suggestions! Keep them coming! Ya'll are awesome!
