Holy crap! I have worked my butt off trying to get information on how to build a dual battery system that can also power a 24v winch while in series. Hell, I'll even install a 24v battery if I can properly juice the alternator to it. A solenoid switch maybe? Who knows of this concept?

 

If you switch your alternator to 24v then you have to switch the whole truck.

The only way I can see this working is if you run two batteries in series, with an isolator inbetween to prevent 24v from leaking back to the alternator and accesories.

This just doesnt seem safe, I think you better find you a 12v winch, because I dont think there is a way to properly do this without starting regular fires!

Back in the eighties some Big Trucks ran a 24 volt starting system while the rest was 12 volts they had a series parallel switch.

You might just need to google search along that line .

It can be done it just takes a little hunting for the parts of course you do need to two batteries . i know these switches were not cheap but they still should be around try your local heavy duty truck part suppliers in your area .

It should be safe to use but you need to look into the duration of your winching when compared to cranking a starter motor over in 30 second intervals . I don`t know if the switch could stand the long length of time in a average winching operation..

Should be a good starting point for what you want to do.

 

It would seem to me that an easier way to set up a system like you guys want would be to put a 24 volt alternator in your truck then there are batteries that have both a 24 volt terminal and a 12 volt terminal setup on them. Then they can charge from the 24 volt side .then I would just hook your truck system up to the 12 volts side. we use those batteries quite regularly in drag race boats and other things I would help to work on a boat thanks to my old boss that was in the unlimited ultralight class and that is where I learned about this it was a 5 l blown alcohol boat it was a great thing and I was part of the pit crew and that's where I learned about this because you need a 24 volt starter to start a high compression engine like that so by putting a 24 volt alternator on that battery you can have both and enjoyed both sides of what you need sorry if this didn't sound right but I'm voice typing
