If you have a 99 4runner and can post a pic of your rig with the wheel and tire size, I would appreciate it. In the next few months, I need new tires (may snag wheels as well) and would like to see what the different sizes look like. My 99 has stock lift and suspension.

Hi,I see you are from Bailey,I went to HS up there in the '80s and lived up in Conifer til '95.

You can only go up to a 265/75/16 on the stock suspension over the stock 265/65s.

This is the stock size on my '97


And the +1 size 265/75s on my '99.

I've got the same setup. Stock everything with the 265/70/16's and was wondering what the truck looked like with the 75 aspect ratio tires.

Anyone have any experience with Michelin LTX M/S tires? They are pretty tame, I know, but I'm looking for ride quality/longevity. With occasional unpaved roads and snow.

The Michelin LTX M/S is a really good highway tire. It could handle dirt roads with ease.

Here's my '98 on 265/70/17 Duratracs which are equivalent to 265/75/16. I had Michelin LTX M/S on there previously.

here's my 99, with a Leveling kit.. Running 265/75 on stock 16" rims..

Tire is a Dankook ATM.. rides like a caddy compared to the other tires i've ran.. last 2 being nitto terra grapler , and bridgestone duelers..

No road noise, & awesome grip, at least out here in the Vegas Desert..

they were very inexpensive.. i think 640 Out the door @ Discount Tire.

... I know my truck looks like its never been offroad.. but i am in the desert, flying through the washes chasing coyotes and climbing nasty desert rock trails about 3-4 days a week.. i detail my truck every other weekend. These were taken the day after new tires mounted & i detailed it.




The photo really Doesn't do the tire justice.. they almost look like M/Ts in person. i've already gotten quite a few compliments on them. I love em!

 

I'm running the Nitto's as well, largely based on recommendations from this forum and others.

You may have issues running front mudflaps with the 265/75 size.

I did and continue to-even with taller Old Man Emu springs. Depending on your fender flares and how strong your desire to run front flaps- I urge you to carefully consider the specs whatever actual tire you choose. Even within a tire size the total circumference may vary slightly-enough to rub mudflaps at full turn or some compression.

Now that I have Bushwacker fender flares this issue has lessened for me considerably. Like Toygun-I previously was running just the small chrome strips for fender trim. I have dropped my flaps and sold them off as they are not compatible any longer.

The wear on my Nittos has not been all that great. I admit I let too long lapse between rotations

I am considering the General Grabber AT2 or now having seen toyguns-the Hankook ATM-gotta check those out.

For the most part I limit my search to LT rated tires. Passenger series are somewhat softer and a better street ride in my opinion. I buy my tires for the rare offroad time and excellent weather handling in town.

Situations vary for all of us, and the price is just another aspect of the choice. Given your mountain location I would not skimp.

 

with a stock suspension setup, you might have issues with the 265/75 like Ron Helmuth was explaining.. at least on the front anyway.. I added a front spacer, or 'leveling kit', and they fit wonderfully.. and i'm running stock rims.

 

I thought my Duratracs would rub since they look taller than the same size Nittos I had but I still clear the front flaps by over an inch but I do have the taller coils offered in '99.

 

Here's my Duratracs and the space between my mudflaps which isn't an issue with the taller coils on my truck but some people still report rubbing issues with the 265/75s.

 

Thanks for all the pics and replies. Elton, I'm diggin' the paint job on the wheels. Plan to do the same and based on the pics have some good options for what tires to get.
