5vz differences

I tried searching but I cannot come up with anything, but I know this information has to be here somewhere.

I have been looking for an engine for a '97 Tacoma. It seems that places usually list the engine being the same from 95-2000 and a different one from 2000 and up. I am finding some good deals on low mileage engines, but they are mostly around 2002. What is the difference between these two? Can I swap parts from my '97 engine on a 2002 engine and make it work?

What parts are you looking for. From doing a 3.4 swap I am aware that some of the wiring is different, and the oil dip stick has a plug in the block for one and not the other.

I am looking for a long block. I am getting a '97 Tacoma with engine problems that I would like to put a good low mileage engine in. All the parts are there, so I can swap parts if necessary to make it work. Do you know which models have the same dipstick location for a 4x4 Tacoma? Would it be anything out of a 4wd?

the block and heads are the same just the throttle on the 2000 and newer had throttle by wire as opposed to the standard throttle cable between the gas pedal and throttle body. I'm sure you can get a newer moter but just swap your electronics and throttle over to the newer block. Just be sure to get all your electronics from your 97 motor! you dont need to worry about dipstick location because you're not replacing a toasted 3.0. You're replacing a 3.4 with a 3.4.
