headed up to see my girlfriend (300miles) and as i arrive i hear a valve tick

the engine has less than 40K miles on it since the rebuild, the tick is throughout the entire rpm range- can this just be adjusted out?

 

Adjust the valves? not a big deal.

 

ya thats what im thinking- just wanted a couple of opinions to make sure that its only a matter of adjusting the valves

 

When I dropped in mine I had a slight tick that progressively got worst. One day I just adjusted them and the problem was gone.

Easy fix.

Also, if it is a slight tick it is not a big deal. All 22RE's tick a little. Probably just your injectors

 

On a 22re where everything is fine with the entire valve train, you shouldn't hear any tick at any time other than maybe the fuel injectors.

Besides the valve adjustments, even when the valves are adjusted properly, excessive clearance between the rocker arms and rocker shafts can cause a noticible ticking noise.

 

Another thing to note is that your oil can actually have an impact on valvetrain noise.

Obviously, if you went on a drive and there was no valvetrain noise prior, and there was when you returned, it's a safe bet to assume you still have the same oil in the truck, but, I noticed a distinct difference when I was running Mobil1 synthetic oil in the truck vs. Shell FormulaShell synthetic -- the Mobil1 seemed to cause noticeably more valvetrain noise -- many people have complained about it online too.

This noise wouldn't be damaging to anything, but, if you haven't done a valve adjustment for awhile, it'd be a good idea just to do a good once-over.

good, im glad everyone agrees its just a valve adjustment- it is the same oil and idk if the guy every adjusted the valves since he swapped the motor...

its funny, ive had numerously more problems with this toyota in 2 months than the lifetime of any other vehicle ive owned, but all of the problems with the toyota i have fixed within an ~hour...cant say that for anything else
