Warn Upright? good, bad?
What do you guys think about the older Warns. The upright models? I might have a trade for my stereo system. But don't know anything about the upright/vertical winches.

I saw their newer version online. The new one is their highest priced winch. And they say it's the fastest, and used mainly by competition trucks. I'll have to see how "old" this winch is.

The Warn M8274-50 is still the winch of choice for vehicles in it's weight class. It is still one of the fastest winches, extemely durable, and can handle extended usage. They used to be freakin' spendy, I think they are still over a G new-

The 8274 is a venerable winch.
I want to say the line speed is comparable to the HS series winches, but it does not fit nicely into anything.
I used one in the Phillipines and it was a beast. Snapped the cable on a big pull.
If I were going custom on a big rig, I would think about one.

Friend had one his dad gave him. He had welder build a mount in front of his stock 87 Toy. It is hella stout and fast. My 8000 lbs planitary winch is s....l...o...w.
If it is the REALLY old one with the cable brake, I think I would avoid it (I think these were pull only, not reversible winching). If you don't set the brake, they free spool out.
