Wheel spacers and wheel backspacing?

Working with 97 T100, (same ifs suspension as 86-95) Truck has BJ spacers and 1inch bodylift. Wheels are from 01 Tundra 16x7, I measure 4 1/2 inch backspacing. Tires are 315/75/16, they rub on steering box and idler arm. My wheels have too much backspace. Do spacers change backspace the same amount of their thickness? I.E. 4 1/2 backspace with 1 1/2 spacer equals 3 inch backspace? Does this make sense or am I thinking too much?

Thanks

Yep, 1" of wheel spacer = 1" less backspacing:
