88 efi wont run

Hey everybody, brand new to the forums. Im a ford ranger guy first off but after putting the ranger away for a race engine build i bought an 88 4x4 to bomb around in during the winter and stuff. bought it two weeks ago and this past weekend it just died on the highway. the lights still work and the engine will turn over, start for a second or two then sputter and die. normally i would take the time and figure it out but i've been trying for two days and nothing will get it going. im just at the end of the line here and i gotta get back to edmonton in 6 days to go on deployment overseas. im seriously beyond stuck here i need major help with this.

yea i can check that. its just odd that it would die just driving along though no? im not throwing any codes either. my friend's 4runner had the AFS die on it and it still ran (like crap) but threw a check engine light. thanks so much! keep it coming!

ok checked the AFS, its fine. checked TPS and it seems ok. one thing to note, it doesnt matter if i hold my foot to the floor or not on startup. i get the same result regardless. but the truck should still start and idle either way right? i know im getting fuel because the cold start injector sprays when i crank but unplugged the truck just cranks and does nothing. it just really seems like my injectors arent pulsing but theres no reason for it. what are the odds of all 4 injectors dying at the exact same time?

i had something very similar to this it ended up being my #4 cylinder injector plug...the wires had pulled out of my plug, i would check to make sure that all your wires are secure, also i have seen issues with wires ware to the point they brake, where the wires loop into the intake manifold from your fire wall, ajdust them and see if that helps...good luck and keep us posted.

did you check all the spark plug wires I had the main wire from the coil come loose it would run funny and some times it would not run at all then I found it almost off of the coil pushed it back in and it ran fine.

Well we finally got it sorted out. my computer is fried. we swapped mine with a computer from a friends truck and his started doing what mine was doing and my truck started right up and ran fine. in the process of finding a computer right now but its not going well. theres one two blocks from my house but the guy wont sell the computer or the entire truck to me. hes dead set on selling it with a 3rd gen companion (that is fully road worthy) it doesnt make much sense i guess but im sure hes got his reasons. and the other option is waiting for a call from a lady to see if her husband will let her sell me the part i need (hes outta town working).

But i just wanted to thank everybody for all the help! seriously im grateful you all took the time to chip in and offer the advice. I've spent the last few years learned the ford ranger platform inside and out and i just dont have the time to learn a whole new platform. thats for after deployment when i got time to burn. thanks!
