EFI Ported and Balanced Intake

Has anyone done this? I was looking on Downey and they offer doing it for 390.02. Seems a little pricey to me but then again it would be nice with my clean injectors. Any thoughts?

Here's what it says

EFI Ported and Balanced Intake Manifold

What does an 8 H.P. gain at 4000 RPM feel like? Your normal power peak is 3600 RPM (normal shifting point). It will now move up to 4000 RPM with a come-alive power surge between 3500 and 5500 RPM. These results are not achieved by polishing alone. Each port is balanced by removing more material from one runner than the other until all four runners are perfectly flow matched. Downey must receive your 2 piece intake manifold in good condition.

Yeah but will the other places balance it like downey states that they do?

I'm up in the air about it. I would love to do it but the only thing I am regreting is the wiring harness that is attached through the intake manifold.

When I put my motor in I didn't want to touch it cause it looked like it would be too much of a pain to try and disconnect the wires. Some went through the firewall while others went towards the transmission and so on.

Has anybody gone through this issue? Is it really easier than it looks to un-hook that part of the harness in order to take the intake manifold out?

to pull the entire manifold off, you HAVE to unplug all the electrical connections on the tranny and snake that wiring harness out and through the manifold... stupid design by some pissed off engineer at Toyota years ago, lol

It's not difficult to do, but is frustrating. And 300+ dollars for 8 hp? ... and you have to rev higher to get it? If you ask me, the 22RE needs more low-end grunt.

Ask Downey for a dyno graph of the same vehicle before their work and after, with power from 1000 rpm's to 6000 rpm's shown on the graph, both torque and horsepower.

Then decide if it's worth the money.

Well I wouldn't mind the extra power to get on the highway.

Also, It would help to have them squeeky clean for when I put the injectors on. I have tried to take out the carbon diposit build up and am not having a whole lot of luck...

I have checked with some local machine shops and they can do it but the say they need my head or another similar one to have it matched in order to get the gains in horsepower.

I really don't know what to do.

Have you done this?

I guess I just wanted to know if they are a pain in the ass to get too. At the time I didn't bother cause the intake was relatively clean.

Thoughts?

That HP number is really pretty meaningless.
You don't feel HP.
What is the torque increase and what rpm.

What other mods do you have? You'd do better with a good header and exhaust.

This is only flow matching the intake which I would think would do very minimal. If you are going to spend that kind of money I would pull the head and get it ported. Much more performance for around the same cost.
