86 auto transmission -no gears at all

Hello I am the happy owner of a 1986 Toyota Pickup, 22re, Auto trans. well, I put it in gear yesterday and it just reved. Checked linkages on trans and t-case. All looks ok. I have no gears all forward gear and reverse just rev like neutral. Only park keeps the truck from rolling free. One piece of info prior to this, and since I bought the truck, it had this issue where when you would accelerate from a stop, it would rev for just a split second then hit and go. Sort of mimicked a bad u-joint but the u-joints seemed fine. I no electronics can do strange things...but I cant imagine anything that would do this much that would be electronic-it would have went into limp mode. I want to verify before I pull the trans though.

torque converter? It seems odd that all gears are gone...pump? help.......Thanks in advance

I'm sure you probably already checked you fluid level. Sounds like the tranny is getting weak if the fluid is fine. Where are you from? I am going to be swaping my auto out for a manual very soon.

I'm right next door, Idaho. I would definitely be interested in buying your Auto. How soon is soon? Let me know, thanks!

Well there is something else strange going on here. The trans fluid is reading VERY high. ????

That is strange. I would probably pull the pan and see if you have any mystery floaters and sparkleys in the bottom. I'll send you a pm on the trans
