okay so my '95 is sagging. I do not have money, no job, but do have a friend that owns a junkyard. My question is, I want to use an old set of springs to fix the '95 and would like to know which springs off of which vehicle will fit on my '95 and as well as your thoughts on my doing this as well as which springs fit best on the '95 4runner. TIA guys!

 

You should wait till you get a job or money. Replacing your sagging springs with springs that are just as old might give you the same results. Why do the job twice when you can do it right the first time? I learned the hard way by taking a gamble with a power steering gearbox from a yard. My old one was leaking and it turns out the one from the yard started to leak too after I put it on.

 

Little advice, don't discuss your finacial situtation here, questions are always welcome but be sure to use the search function to try to find some answers to your questions, Most of them have been asked before but if its not there, ask away. One more item, if you have a 95 4runner, you're in the wrong forum. You need to be in the one just before this one! You have a 2nd gen 4runner!

As for getting springs from a wrecking/salvage yard, be sure of what you are looking for. As Hilux mentioned, you need to check out the parts closely or you will be throwing good $$ after bad. Not all "used parts" are bad parts, but some are more prone to breakdown then others. There are many threads on the forums about spring swaps to help reduce or improve "4runner sag". Suggest you check the 2nd gen forum, search under rear springs, 4runner sag, LC springs. these should yield some results you could use. Having a buddy who has access to a salvage yard can be a big $$ saver! I did alot of my mods using salvage parts without any serious issues. Just be educated as to what you are going to use, what to look for and how to modifiy it for use in your 2nd gen, Good luck and Welcome!!!

to be fair, ritzy, the 95.5 runners (later part of 95) which are called by the dealership 1995 4runners, are 3rd gens...

as for the junkyard springs, i wouldnt do it... it'd be hard to find a set of replacement springs... especially one that was wrecked in the first few years of its life and the springs have been sitting on a shelf or tucked away in a corner... the odds are astronomical...

id just wait till you have money and do it the right way...

 

If you dont like the back sagging and cant fix it right now. Turn down the front torsion bars. Its what i did, and i still have it set that way.. Just grab some lube and a wrench (21mm i think, im not sure), jack up the front and do a few turns.

Be very careful, the bolts have been known to break off.

have your buddy watch for Land Crusier coils to come thru.... search LC coils for more info.

 

The only thing about the LC coils is, now its going to be a lot taller in the back than the front.
I have a set with the panhard drop bracket for sale if anyone is interested.

3-4 depending on the year coils...

another option is to find a set of air shocks and pump the crap outta them... itll ride stiff, but it might level it out...

Yes, I think don't go just off me (I'm just making a guess because the LC coils work on 2nd and 3rd gen runners) as long as they're the rears like yours are. Front coilovers won't work.

 

i dont think that they will work, but then again, ive never seen someone try...
like said before, measure the buckets...
just bear in mind that the 3rd gens sag just as much as the 2nd gens... and i think tha they might even be heavier in the rear, so the springs might be even MORE fatigued...

That right there needs to be turned into a sticker that I can put on the windshield of my 1st gen.

 

Aside from some junkyard LC coils and BJ spacers up front your cheapest route are probably these from 4crawler here on the site. $90 plus shipping.

 

for posting spacers to someone with sagging springs, I award you no points and may the toyota gods have mercy on your soul... I have Old Man Emu springs and ball joint spacers up front, and love that setup. The Land Cruiser coils are too soft for some, but that sounds nice to me... Also, with the Cruiser coils, one is always slightly shorter than the other. Some people buy 2 sets and use the taller springs, you would want the shorter ones it seems. Also, if you want to fix your problem for the least amount of money possible, see if you can find another 4runner in your buddys yard without sag. It's a real shot in the dark, but few people give a hoot about the 4runner coils, so you can get them for reeeal cheap.
