I'm in the process of putting in a transmission cooler and came up with a oddball/interesting mounting solution.

I've seen several BMW's that mount the trans cooler between the radiator and the condenser and then have a fan on the front of the condenser pushing air through it and over the trans cooler and radiator.

I was thinking of doing the same with because I get in allot of stop and go traffic and want to put a fan on the trans cooler but there isn't enough room behind the grill on a 3rd gen for a cooler AND fan. But between the condenser and radiator is at least 3 inches and you could put a pretty big sized cooler in there.

I know the a/c condenser is going to heat up the air 20-30 degrees but with the fan blowing more air volume it should lower the temp diff across the condenser to around 10-15 over ambient that would be hitting the trans cooler.

Has anyone tried this and if so what was the result ??

 

Never really though about putting the trans cooler behind the condensor, mines in front. And the fan in front seems kind of redundant when there already is a fan behind the rad pulling air through.

 

A second fan isn't redundant at all. If you look at the second gen 4runner you will see a electric fan infront of the a/c condenser even though the engine has a belt driven fan.

The reason for the electric fan is it can push 600-800 CFM when creeping along in traffic or laboring up a moutain pass were very liittle air flow is coming in due to lack of speed.

The electric fan also helps counter the added air resistance caused by the transmission cooler.

But if you look around there are ALLOT of vehicles with engine driven fans that have an auxillary electric fan up front to assist in slow moving situations.
