Took the day off to get some work done on the house and the rig. The house work went well, the rig is another matter.

I pulled the access panel in the cab off to replace the gasket (RTV) on the top of the t-case since it's been leaking and after cleaning it up I found this.


The t-case is cracked in four places. The one in the picture is the worst, the other three are hair-lines. Now the t-case shifts out fine, never jumps out of gear, doesn't grind or make any strange noises and so far I have no issues. Do ya'll think it will be ok while I source another one???

I also pulled the throttle body to clean it out and take a look at the idle air control valve (IACV). The TB was filthy and so is the plenum. I sprayed both with TB cleaner and got them scrubbed but am concerned about some of the build up running through the motor on initial start up. Should I be worried?

The IACV was packed full of carbon and I'm hoping that by cleaning it out I'll get rid of a recent freaky idle issue.

Wow what a bummer on the Tcase..

my thoughts are as long as it has fluid you should be fine..

 

Toyota early model tcases are cheaply made and have lots of casting marks that appear to be cracks, especially inside. I doubt that is a crack...or doesn't appear to be one from that picture.

x2^^ if it doesent leak fluid, and you have no prior issues with the T-case it sounds fine, but if you want peace of mind you can source a cheap one and keep it on hand, maybe even rebuild it and put some crawler gears in it

yeah, I really don't see anything in that pic, the "crack" is too straight of a line to actually be a fracture . . . it wouldn't make sense that it would crack in that spot anyway, given the gear arrangement and how the case is stressed under load
