Start at 4 qts and check from there. Wait a few minutes to check after you finish the 4 qts, I mean wait a few minutes before you check the fluid level on the dipstick before you start your runner (should be between COLD ADD and COLD FULL)
When mine was full to capacity before I drained it without removing the pan it took exactly 4.5 qts. I let it drain a while though. I put mine exactly in the middle between ADD HOT and ADD FULL after warming the car up (driving for 20 min).
