Just curious if anybody has ever tried to put a carburetor on our dear old 3.0?

I would think building a intake from scratch would be too much time and money spent on a 3.0

yeah. building an intake for a carb would be an undertaking of some order of magnatude. converting to a carb would also mean modifiying the ignition system as well, basically ... well... begs the question: why?

doing any mods to the 3.0L is a waste of time

there was just a thread about this not long ago... search for it and gleam what info you can, but the long and short of it is, it MAY be possible, but completely useless...

x2 That seems kind of useless. Though it may be better for the intake size reaching the throttle body, but at that point why wouldn't you just bore the throttle body and mod the intake. It'd be much less work.

Be better and far less work to just drop a Chevy 350 in with a Holley.

I don't even see any gain of pride by modding a 3.turtle

I could never understand why someone would be keen on ditching fuel injection for old technology. It won't give any performance improvements, the engine is limited by volumetric efficiency or how easily it can get and air in and exhaust out which is determined by the cylinder head/ports and a lesser degree the intake . . . . why not swap in an old Ford flat head or a single cylinder "hit & miss" engine?

ok, so we've ruled out swapping a carb onto a 3.0, but i got to thinking the other day, and i was wondering if there would be any gain (other than the cool factor) of swapping ITBs onto this motor...

near instant throttle response and better wide-open throttle acceleration at the expense of smoother throttle respons and possibly low end throttl . . . the cheap way of doing ITBs is to source a set of motorcycle throttle bodies, but you'll likely need to run a stand alone unless you're good at patching together the factory EFI to work

The factory 3VZ-E intake is a long runner design that is great for torque; just what a truck needs. Independent throttle bodies would probably make the 3.0 an even worse performer. The engine doesn't spin fast enough to use them and would lose low-end torque from the extremely short runners. I would expect a single-plane fabricated carb intake to do something similar. ITBs are generally most beneficial on very high-revving engines like the Honda F20C in one of your pictures(3rd from top). It has a factory redline of 9000rpm and built engines spin quite a bit higher.

From: Yotatech, because Pirate is too expensive. NorCal.
Man after ISR, 7mg AFM, and exhaust. I think your just going too far because by the time your done you can look at your thing and say I could have dropped that much into a 3.4 swap and be just as fast with better milage and room to grow.
