I have an 01 tacoma and i need to remove the corner marker lights to replace the bulbs that have gone out. The manual says remove the screw (on the top edge of the grill) and pull the light straight out.

I tried to do this, and pulled firmly and the light would not budge. I pulled harder and I heard plastic starting to crack......

What the heck is going on and how do I get the light out to replace the bulb?

the lights have clips that hold them in place. This method broke one of the clips (attached to the quarter panel) on one of the lights and the part attached the the actual light housing on the other side........

That is ridiculous... and looking at the pictures on the write up, the lights are attached slightly differently in an 01 tacoma then in the 4runner pictured.

This can not be the right way to remove the lights. It broke mounting connections on both of my corner markers... rediculous

 

Sorry to hear you had problems Goudy... remember all advice offered here is buyer beware... In this case I think as others have mentioned it is one of the crummier Toyota part designs... FWIW if you check our General Tech section there is a sticky there with a link to several online FSMs for nearly every year if you read through them the factory service tech info/method is usually there... IK it's a little late for you now but next time...
