I ordered some stainless steel brake lines for my truck from autoanything:

The rear single line fit just fine. On the front the fitting will not go over the flare on the caliper side. Fits fine on the frame side (on both the stainless and stock lines the fittings are the same on both sides). Is this a common thing with the 4runners? It looks like it is possible that someone overtightened that fitting and caused the flare to flare even more.

I was able to get the stock rubber line back on, but no matter what I couldn't get the stainless lines over the flare far enough to engage the threads.

I am thinking of returning the goodridge lines and getting the set of lines from http://www.trail-gear.com/brake.html. Has anyone used these? I can get new caliper side lines from them along with the stainless lines cheaper than what the stainless lines cost me.

Is there a chance these won't fit either? Damn split year truck gives me a headache.

 

I don't know what brand I have on mine, but I recall having a ton of trouble getting the back started. It seems like the fronts went right on. I got mine in a private sale so I don't know where they came from...

 

When I replaced my factory front brake lines due to them leaking I also had a problem getting the new lines on because the factory lines were overtightened. I took a dremel rotary tool with a small drum sander & grinded the end of the flare just until it fit.

 

I was thinking about doing the same, but was concerned that I might get a leak. I may just order the replacement hardlines from the site linked above since they have them pretty cheap.

I noticed when I ordered my parts it asked whether my truck was manufactured before or after October. Anyone know what the difference is?

 

1995 had a half year truck. They came out with the Tacoma that year.

 

I knew that... I haven't been able to tell what the differences in the brakes are.

 

There are no leaks at all. All I did was shave a little of the metal on the end off. I'm sure that this was due to over tightening from the factory as my lines were not previously changed. If you look at how it seals, the part that needs to be grinded down doesn't seal anything. It's the flare on the brake line itself that does the sealing.

 

Got my replacement hard lines from trail-gear.com. The SS lines fit in them just fine. They will go on tomorrow.
