I just want some opinions on the positions of these timing marks I think the timing belt has jumped time on me while I'm waiting to replace the belt and related components.Crankshaft pulley notch is lined up with the 0 and the rotor is pointing at the #1 plug wire location on the cap
maybe this is why my engine feels like it has no power and idles rough but it starts on the first turn of the key
I put some white dots on the alignment marks for clarity

If you are lined up at the crank then yes the cams are off.

Thanks....and yes the notch on the crank pulley is aligned with the 0 on the #1 timing belt cover.
my #2 idler pulley is bad and also I think the hydraulic tensioner is also bad or going bad. I would suspect that at some point the belt jumped a tooth or two OR the person who installed the belt in the past may have installed it incorrectly.
Is it possible for a belt to jump a tooth if it is installed correctly and the proper tension is holding everything correctly?

 

No need to remove belt..you can make adj by loosening the distributor and adj timing there,,I did and it worked...

I know that bruizer ment well, but I'm smart enough to know that the distributer will not correct this problem.I agree with you someone had to install the belt incorrectly as I suspected.

Blanket apology follows: There tends to be a low tolerance on this and many other serious forums (much worse on some others) for questionable advice. And yours fits the bill. I apologize on behalf of everyone (I know I can't really do that!) for the behavior of nearly everyone on the forum. Please don't take offense (unless you're easily offended, since there isn't a right to not be offended.)

Now as to your advice, you can reset the ignition timing to correct for the tooth being off but there is no way to fix the fact that the valves are not opening and closing at the right time by moving the distributor. You must loosen the belt and move the cam to the TDC mark and retighten the belt to correct incorrect valve timing.

Thanks for all the help yotatech members!!...I have removed and installed the timing belt, all pulley and tensioner so now all my timing marks line up now.I also had to do the job twice because of a bad water pump so I think I can do the job in my sleep,well almost
I'm bringing this thread to a close for now but I may revisit this in the future if I feel the need to
