Any advice would help:

The 98 I bought about a month ago didn't come with remotes. No big deal, so I bought some. Tonite I tried to clear the brain and program new codes into the remotes using a set of RS3000 instructions I found here:

In anycase, this thing doesn't work and now I'm beginning to think that the seller wasn't completely truthful about the alarm being operational. Caveat emptor.

To reset the alarm, you need to press this green button on the side for 3 seconds after turning the ignition to the "ON" position. Then the alarm status light is supposed to flash. Didn't happen. Tried it numerous times.

What I'd like to know from all you alarm experts is "Is this repairable?" Is it as simple as a busted fuse? Loose connection? What are some ways to troubleshoot this? I looked at the manual above but there is no troubleshooting document.

Any help would be greatly appreciated or else I'm off to the alarm shop!

Do you have the FSM ??

I had a problem with my 3200 after they replaced the rear window relay.

The master tech reprogrammed the alarm remotes for me and all was well.

It involves a lot of cycling of the ign key with door open/door closed etc.

It was complicated.

I would also think only a Toy stealer could do it as the alarm shop will turn around and say...not fitted here.

Yeah, I recently got a copy of the FSM. I didn't realize that the RS3000 alarm stuff is in there. Thanks for the tip!

I was reading the manual that was attached to this thread and it said that one of the default settings of this alarm is that it automatically locks your doors when you get going. Does your 4Runner do this? If it does, it sounds like it is a remote programming issue, if not it should be the fuse. If this alarm is a dealer installed option, the fuse will probably be tucked up in the dash wiring under the steering column and not in a fuse panel. Good Luck.
