Hey guys...

I wanted to do a brake upgrade on my 1987 4runner turbo.

How hard is it to get the rotors off and replaced with upgraded ones?

Is there anything specific that needs to be done in order to do this.

This is my plan.....I am thinking of putting EBC rotors and brake pads on, upgrading to stainless brake lines and putting in a 1"bore master cylider.

Any and all suggestions is appreciated.

I'm not sure it applies to you but I have a guy at my work with a 91 Hilux Surf (japan 4Runner, same as 2nd gen but right hand drive).
He bought drilled rotors for his truck and he said it was a snap. Took less than 2 hours to do it all.
As for your other upgrades, I couldn't tell you. But I'm guessing it would be best to do it all at once instead of bleeding you brake system a dozen times.

 

So you mean....remove the master cylider and brake lines, replace them with the new parts and then fill the system back up?

Dont I still have to do a bench bleed at that point?

you don't have to bench bleed.. but you will have mushy brakes..

Bench bleed swap your mc, swap your MC, swap your lines, swap your rotors and pads..

and bleed your new system..
drilled rotors are worthless

meh not worthless for the 2wd guys where brake fad is an actual problem especially on a turbo runner (kinda heavy and fast...)i wouldent get cross drilled tho just slotted and dumpled (holes in the rotor make for less strength) but if its 2wd shouldent take long at all

 

A few things:

- Rotors, do NOT get drilled rotors. They will decrease your braking.

- EBC pads are way high on the list of "best" pads. Get the 7000 series and you'll never look back.

- Stainless steel lines are worthless, for the money. If your existing lines are in poor shape then just replace them with OEM style lines. There is no reason to waste money on SS.

- Going to a larger bore master cylinder will not increase your braking ability, it will decrease it, all other things being the same. Stick with the stock sized MC.

I've run the EBC 7000 series for a couple of years now and they will stand the truck on it's nose lol

I got them from buybrakes.com.
Solid (not drilled, not slotted, but vented) rotors, nothing else.

They must be broken in correctly, something most people fail doing with any new brake pad.
