Engine noise in radio

Just the other day my radio started to pick up engine noise, so bad you cant hear the music. Its a factory radio, is the cause the radio or is something electrical....

couple of possibilities, bad plug wires? they can cause radio noise i think, and if you have bad grounds for the radio this can also happen,

it's there a little capacitor/resister mounted at the coil/ignitor that is suppose to drown that noise out? a little black box-like thing? also reffered to as a ballast resister I think

I just gave it a tune-up.. wires, plugs, cap and rotor. It was starting write before all that and seem toget worst after the tune up. The radio starts out fine then after few minutes it get worst!!

I worked at Circuit City in the install dept for a few years. By you saying what you changed, it makes me think you may have gotten resistorless spark plugs or possibly wires. Did you get performance parts? Many high performance parts ditch the resistors for better performance at the expense of engine noise, which doesn't matter in a race car. Resistorless spark plugs can cause HORRENDOUS engine noise.

Could it be that the radio itself is just bad? You said the problem started before you did the tune up & didn't get better after the tune up. If everything is all factory with the radio & wiring then maybe there is an internal issue or bad ground? You did say that it starts out fine & then 5 minutes later the noise starts so I can't think of anything else that it could be? Did you install anything on the same circuit as the radio?

For a little clarification... what type of engine noise? Is it a whine that changes with engine rpm's or popping / clicking that changes with rpm's?
In the first case, it could be an issue with the alternator. Second case is ignition caused. Noise filters for either should be available at the local autoparts store, radio shack, car stereo dealer, etc. Also verify the antenna plug to the stereo is well seated in the chassis and the antenna is making a good ground connection at the fender.
