Me and a couple of my friends were checking out my mom's truck's engine a couple months ago, and one of them noticed that Toyota was spelled Toyoda on the power steering reservoir. I was just wondering if everybody else has this or if anybody know why this is the only piece on the engine that is misspelled. It is my mom's 86 4Runner with a 22re engine in it.

 

Who hasn't noticed it if they do work on their vehicles?

There are a few other thing spelled like that around the vehicle, just forgot what they are

Its not that they are misspelled, its that the founder of TOYOTAs original name was Toyoda.

My dad has owned this truck and has been working on it for it's whole life, didn't notice it until I showed him.....that's who.

I understand that it was just a different translation, but why are there only a few things spelled that way?

it says that on the end of the steering boxes also.

 

It's not a translation. It was the guys name. Eiji Toyoda. Made Toyota profitable...

 

Better yet just read the toyota wiki on there, it states something..

 

IMO should of left it at ToyoDa ... why they changed it to ToyoTa is beyond me, apparently from what I've read the marketer's thought ToyoTa looked better and might possibly be a better translation in their opinions.

How it lasted into the 80's from after ww2 is beyond me tho.

 

It's on the stock PS rack on my 98 4Runner too. Seems to be something with the Power Steering system.

 

According to http://un-nan.shoko-shimane.or.jp/blog/?p=96, there were three reasons Toyoda became Toyota: the katakana representation for toyota (トヨタ)　has eight strokes, which founder Sakichi Toyoda's son Kiichirou Toyoda believed to be a lucky number. He also believed that Toyota was easier for overseas customers to pronounce than Toyoda. Finally, when they made the company public, they wanted to make it clear that the Toyoda family no longer owned the company.

Toy Oh Duh! Or Toy Oh Ta! i do know that "Toyoda" is only on old yotas and def not on yotas 88+ that i know of. anything older though ITS EVERYWHERE! I remember when my dad saw it on hes P/S resivor he thought it was a misspelling and factory flaw. lol

 

Kiroshu, my '93 had "TOYODA" on the PS cap and two other places, which I fail to remember because I sold it in February

Been mentioned a few times before, and one thread had talk about the Toyota emblem... A Bull? two ovals? or TOYOTA spelled out?...

Nippon - Japan Same thing.

 

my supra also has Toyoda on the P?S cap among other place throughout the car, mainly the engine bay.
