Thumbs down Performed spacer lift, both inner CV joints threw up!!!!! What to do...

I own a 96' 4runner with a 3" 4crawler bodylift and 3" OME coil/shock setup. I finally got around to installing my Daystar 1.25" top plate spacers and just about a week later BOTH my driver's and passenger's side inner CV joint boots tore and "threw up" some grease.

Whats the recommendation? Do I simply clean them, repack them with grease and replace the boots? Go with new CV joints since I probably have to take both CV joints out? Any ideas guys that have had to deal with this problemo before..?

You should get a diff drop kit and take out the 1.25" daystar soacer if you already have the 3" OME setup up front. Your going to keep on blowin boots if you keep runnin that setup, the 96-02 Runners just can't take that much lift or you over stress the CV's. Re-pack the CV's and take off the spacer.

I'm in the same boat as you, except I just did the SS 1.2 lift....with the diff drop and both my inners tore. I think they tore cuz they were old as hell....had alot of miles on them already....I'm just gonna replace both CV's instead of repacking the boots, since I'll have them off anyway.....I did find this website that sells high angle inner CV boots, they are towards the bottom of the page....I'm going to order those as well....hopefully they'll alleviate some stress. http://www.offroadsolutions.com/96-02_4runner.html

How hard is the manual hub swap to do? I've been thinking about it...I know you need the hubs from an old taco, but what other parts? Are they different CV's as well?

I have the diff drop kit installed already...

I'm guessin the OME gave me 1.25-1.5" lift up front, so with the 1.25" Daystar spacer the front lift shouldn't be past 3". If you factor in the diff drop kit it should only be maybe 2" higher from stock?

Manual hubs are really spendy for 96 and up rigs scuba.

When I lifted my Tundra my boots started to leak. I went to Napa, showed them my old clamp and they gave me real ones that you need a special pair of pliers to clamp on. The pliers are cheap and are a good thing to have in your tool box. For less than 20 bucks I replaced all 4 clamps and got a real good squeeze on them and have not had a lick of trouble since. The stock clamps only have one notch and they suck. Even a zip tie works better than the stock ones. Even if you end up replacing your boots entirely if they ripped I would still put an aftermarket clamp on there.

Anyone heard of plastic boots you can clamp over from NAPA without taking anything apart?

Are you talking about putting a boot over the existing CV boot?

There is not point on doing this. All you are doing is catching the grease that is spitting from the real boot, which will leave your cv's dry.
Did the boots actually tear or just leaking past the clamps?

I have found that autozone's cv's are much stronger and dont leak like the stock or napa ones. and they come with a life time warrenty. I havent had to use it yet tho.
