1995.5 Tacoma, I cant seem to get all the air out of the system of my new power steering pump. It is the 2nd pump from the auto parts store and ive ran 2-3 quarts through the system of each pump but its still noisey (when I turn either way it sounds like chewbacca lol). The weird thing is I can get it as quiet as stock by turning it back and forth and I think it does the job but 5 min. laster its noisey again. What should I do? try another brand (its a rebuilt pump) or what? I need some help please

 

Are you bleeding it as per the FSM? When I flush my system, I usually start bleeding with the wheels off the ground. Start the truck, and remove the power steering reservoir cap. Have somebody watch for air bubbles in the reservoir as you do this.

Turn the wheel and hold to lock in one direction for a few seconds, turn the wheel and hold to lock in the other direction for a few seconds. Repeat this a few times, holding the steering wheel at full lock for a few seconds each time.

When no bubbles are visible in the reservoir, I put the truck back down on the wheels and repeat the above procedure turning the steering wheels a few times to each side and holding at the full lock position for a few seconds. I've never had a problem doing it this way.

 

should steer left and right for a few minutes in parking lot. then let it sit for while, do it again. power steering is self-air-bubble bleeding via this method. if it never gets better you have a leak somewhere or pump problem. it should go away after 5 miles of driving and turning around city blocks, so to speak. you have to go lock-lock to get all the air out. and then it foams, so you wait and let the bubbles pop.
