so to all with 1st gen 4runners i was wondering what you all do over night. do you put the roof back on or cover up the interior somehow? also what do you do when it rains?

In my area (the North Wet Coast), one in a hundred 1st gens take the top off. Most of the people i spoke to when searching for a 1st gen said they took the top off once the summer after they bought it then it stayed on forever after.

A friend has stripped the carpet out and straps on a tarp at night, but he can't drive with it on because it is deafeningly loud.

 

park in the garage?

Actually I just leave it off all summer, and keep an eye on the forcast. If there's a threat of rain I park in the garage or throw a tarp over. But I don't really worry about overnight, yeah tehre's a little condensation but it evaporates off quickly the next day.

 

I keep my top off pretty much year round. I typically keep it in the garage but even when I don't the only thing I really worry about is someone stealing the cat. I don't really keep anything in it that would be worth stealing.

 

in my old k5 blazer, i solved this dilemma by removing the carpet and herculining the whole interior. back seats got a waterproof cover. in a pinch, i've seen lots of people use a piece of plastic sheeting held in place with a few rocks or wood, even tape! buddy of mine w/a jeep always had his top off most of the year and he rigged a hoist in his garage so he could put on/off his top in minutes by himself.

 

lol i would pray. i also bought it without the rear carpet on so i dont have to worry about that and i think i am gonna put truck bed liner back there.

i would but it in the garage but that means i'd have to leave my mach 1 outside and i'd really like to not do that cause she's always pretty lol. i guess ill just leave it, i do have a bikini top for it and i might just leave that on

I've had my 88 for a few years and honestly have not taken the top off once. I use it for a work vehicle so there are things in that back that although not worth much to most people they have scrap value.
And actually, the only thing that saved me from having my entire stereo system (speakers / enclosure, amp, etc) stolen was the fact there were boxes upon boxes upon everything so the only thing easily accesible was the head unit. ...still not sure how they got past the alarm but that's another subject.

 

I have yet to leave it off for a night.. cant really trust to many people these days.
If i were to, im sure my mom would move her xterra out so i could park it in for the night

 

It's a Toyota, you rip the carpet out, cover the seats with neoprene seat covers, herculine the floor and drill some drain holes, and let it ride. If you have speakers in the rear pannels you may also want to upgrade to a marine grade speaker. I also teamed up with a friend of mine who is handy with a sewing machine and made a bikini top for mine.

 

oh how I would love a truck with a removable top. That thing would be off all the time. I'd rip the carpet out and do some bed liner spray to the entire interior. I'd also waterproof all of the wiring.

Just needed to take some measurements and send them to him. It was a while ago and I don't remember what measurements he needed.

Not much point of owning a 1st Gen 4Runner if you are not gonna take the top off every once in a while...I miss my old '86.

Can't wait till I get my cage done in my Trekker so I can start taking the top off on it...

 

i dont worry about the rain. i worry about punk kids steeling my recovery gear!!!!! i try to keep my tiny garage clean so i can bring her in when i leave town.

 

im really likin the bronco cover thing. i already have wet okels up front and now i have to get them for the back then i can drive it around in the rain with my bikini top and not worry but over night that bronco cover would be awesome
