I plan to install Land Cruiser shocks and coils on the rear of my 4Runner, and I found a CL listing for new Cruiser shocks from KYB. Are these as good as the OEM black Tokicos? Should I hold out and buy OEM from the stealership?

thee coils are much stronger from the Cruiser and you will need the longer shocks for them.
If you want lift and weight capacity go with the cruisers! if not go stock.

I probably should have specified that the OEM Tokicos I was talking about are the OEM Cruiser shocks, not 4Runner shocks.

what year land cruiser coils fit on a 4runner?
I have a 2002 sport and want to set up the rear like this but I have no Idea what year coils to look for.
Do I need to extend the brake lines with this set up?

 

Deceptiwave, the brake lines extension would be more for peace of mind, its not a requirement...though those lines do start getting pretty tight

Bike, its up to you if the added cost margin is it. KYB is a good company, I had a complete built front strut assembly shipped out from Toytec last year and they used KYB for the top plates, I compared them to oem and you couldn't tell a difference. As for shocks, haven't had any personal experience with the shocks, but from dealing with several of their other products I can say I have faith in the line. Bottom line is if it were up to me I'd hold off on the OEM cruisers if money wasn't the biggest issue, but you'll be fine either way

 

I dont do any serious offroading, just sand and snow and mountain roads, so do you think I will be OK without extending the brake lines?
Also, the FJ80 series LC is what I am after, is that correct?
And longer shocks? Like off the LC as well?

Yes, you are looking for the FRONT coils off of a FJ80, they come in different wraps, some offer 7 wraps for approx 3.5, others offer the 9 wrap for a tad over 4". Its not just one cruiser fits all if you're looking for some specific height. You'd be best with extended shocks, it'd be ridiculous to run the original shocks with coils of this size. For very cheap your best bet is to head to toyteclifts.com and buy some extended shocks for your application or you can get procomps, or up it again and get the ome's or bilsteins, otherwise yes the lc's will be more than fine. For your driving the brake lines will be fine, just be weary of them during install one jolt of the axle on one side will snap it, so be careful and all should be well. Good luck

 

i would look into getting an extended line. i have LC springs and shocks on the rear of mine and the brake line is pretty much extended to it's max if the axle fully drops. that rear brake line is $25-30ish? a lot better piece of mind then finding out you dont have rear brakes driving home...

 

very true, but i always keep pinching pennies in the forefront of my mind during these times. I have yet to extend mine in the rear, they've been through rivers mud and rally jumps and still just fine, that's why I say for peace of mind

If you are to upgrade though, don't mess around, just go ahead and get the stainless steel kit

I'd like to know if anybody has a site to find these LC's? And how do you know between the 7 wrap and the bigger 9 wrap or whatever? Also...is it ok to get the OME LandCruiser coils they make that set the LC up like factory but an extra 3/8"?

I've settled on a Sonoran Steel 1.2 lift, which has the LC coils in back and the Tundra coils up front. I now have a set of 9 wrap LC coils that I'm selling. You can find them in the classifieds. Does anyone know of a good application for those springs? They are way too tall for a 3rd gen 4Runner.

 

I am trying to piece together the same set up like the 1.2, but I can get the toyota stuff from a local dealership for cost. Saves a little cash to put towards tires.
I am a little confused on the rear shocks though. Will the stock LC rear shocks be needed to fit on the rear of my 4runner?
Or just buy after market LC shocks? Or after market 4runner shocks?
